Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has singled out Manchester United's teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo as a player with immense potential, suggesting the youngster is destined for greatness.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been turning heads with his mature performances for Erik ten Hag's side this season, earning plaudits from fans and pundits alike.
Amorim, who has been linked with several top European clubs including Liverpool, told reporters: "When you see a young player like Mainoo performing with such composure at the highest level, you know he's something special."
The Portuguese tactician added: "His technical ability and reading of the game are exceptional for his age. Manchester United have a real gem on their hands."
Mainoo has made 15 Premier League appearances this campaign, scoring his first senior goal in memorable fashion during United's 4-3 win at Wolves in February.
With United facing an important summer rebuild, many believe the Stockport-born youngster could become a mainstay in their midfield for years to come.
Amorim's comments come amid growing speculation about his own future, with the 39-year-old manager having guided Sporting to the Primeira Liga title in 2021.
