Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has played down speculation linking the club with Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, despite describing the Ghana international as a 'special player'. The 24-year-old has a reported £65 million release clause that becomes active next month, but Amorim insisted a move is not on the cards.
Speaking ahead of the January transfer window, Amorim said: 'They have a special player. They have many good players but they have a special player in Semenyo. [He] can play both sides with both feet.' However, when asked about a potential deal, he added: 'No, it's not the case. I think there is a lot of special players in the league.'
United are also being linked with Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams, valued at £40 million. The 26-year-old US international has impressed for Andoni Iraola's side this season and previously admitted that playing at Old Trafford with RB Leipzig inspired his Premier League dream. 'It's just a special occasion,' Adams said. 'This is what you grow up watching.'
The club spent heavily in the summer on a new front three of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, as well as goalkeeper Senne Lammens, but the squad still requires strengthening. United are targeting a Champions League spot after missing out on European football last term.
