Manchester United winger Amad has responded defiantly after the club's winless run extended to nine matches with a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. The player believes the eventual return to winning ways will feel sweeter because of the wait.
Defeat at Stamford Bridge
Michael Carrick's side lost 2-0 to Chelsea after starting the game well. Weak defending allowed Morgan Rogers to score for the Blues, before a lapse from Lisandro Martinez gave Cole Palmer the chance to convert from the penalty spot.
Amad acknowledged the difficulty of the trip to Stamford Bridge but backed his teammates to recover.
Player reactions
"Difficult days weigh on us, but they will never erase what unites us," he posted on his Instagram story. "The joy of winning again will be all the greater for having waited for it together. I have such faith."
United forward Bryan Mbeumo also saw reason for encouragement in the performance, while conceding the side should have been more clinical in front of goal.
"A lot of disappointment. I think we've done a lot of right things, especially in the first half, especially when we could have been up 1-0 or 2-0," Mbeumo reflected on the match. "The first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. I think the last games we didn't create a lot but obviously they are a good team with quality."
Looking ahead
Asked whether United were suffering from a lack of confidence, Mbeumo responded: "I think every goal hurts. With what we've shown today I think we can really be, I won't say proud, but I think the mentality was there."
"Everyone worked really hard and we still have to modify some bits on the training ground, work even harder, and we have two very important games [coming up]," he added.
