Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder injury in training. The Brazilian missed Sunday's 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa after colliding with a teammate at Melwood on Saturday.
Manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Alisson will not be fit for the Merseyside derby against Everton on October 17. 'No chance to play against Everton,' Klopp said. 'Let me say, it could have been worse with that injury, that's for sure. We were slightly lucky but it's not that he can play against Everton.'
Deputy goalkeeper Adrian deputised at Villa Park but made a costly error leading to Villa's first goal. Liverpool's medical staff have not ruled out surgery, though club sources consider it unlikely at this stage.
Klopp added: 'I don't want to put a timeframe on it but four weeks could be possible, six weeks is maybe more likely, but I don't know. We have to assess this thing, that's how it is.'
The absence could see Alisson miss key Premier League fixtures against Manchester City and Champions League group stage matches, leaving Liverpool with a goalkeeping crisis as they look to bounce back from their heavy defeat.
