Concerned listeners have been given an update on the health of veteran talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil, who has now missed a second consecutive day of his breakfast show after falling ill during a live broadcast. The 66-year-old former Scotland international was unable to complete Thursday's programme and was absent again on Friday, prompting his stand-in colleagues to offer reassurances about his condition.
On-Air Incident and Immediate Aftermath
During Thursday's early morning broadcast, Brazil reportedly began feeling unwell, with co-host Gabby Agbonlahor explaining to listeners that the presenter was "feeling a bit poorly." Brazil came off air shortly after 8am, and Katie Shanahan was drafted in to complete the remainder of the show alongside Agbonlahor.
talkSPORT issued an official statement later that day confirming the situation: "Alan Brazil was feeling unwell during today's talkSPORT Breakfast show and came off air after 8am. Gabby Agbonlahor and Katie Shanahan presented the remainder of the programme. Alan is doing OK, and will be back on talkSPORT shortly. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Friday's Show and Colleague Updates
With Brazil still absent on Friday, stand-in presenter Shebahn Aherne opened the 6am programme alongside Arsenal legend Ray Parlour, offering some insight into what had occurred. "Poor Al, he took the dizzies yesterday," Aherne revealed, prompting a light-hearted response from Parlour who joked: "Too many bourbons, I heard!"
Aherne elaborated further, suggesting: "Yeah, too much sugar! Is it true that he spent the rest of the show - while Katie did the show - lying on the couch? Apparently he did." Parlour then shared that Brazil had experienced similar issues previously, noting: "He was getting dizzy last week when I was here. The lights are making him go dizzy, so if we go dizzy later and say, 'Oh we don't feel too good' then turn the lights down for god's sake."
Most importantly, Aherne provided reassurance to concerned listeners, stating clearly: "We are sending our love to Al, he is absolutely fine, he's doing well."
Alan Brazil's Broadcasting Career
The former professional footballer has been a mainstay of talkSPORT's breakfast programming since the station's launch in 2000, becoming one of British radio's most recognisable voices. Six years ago, Brazil reduced his broadcasting commitments and now primarily hosts the Thursday and Friday breakfast slots.
Football Background and Personal Life
Before his successful media career, Brazil enjoyed a notable footballing journey that began at Ipswich Town in 1976. He went on to play for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United during the 1980s, while also earning 13 caps for Scotland and representing his country at the 1982 World Cup.
Persistent back problems forced an early end to his top-level playing career at just 27, though he continued playing for various lower league clubs until officially retiring in 1991. Away from the microphone, Brazil is a father to three daughters - Lucy, Stephanie, and Michelle.
The talkSPORT team and listeners alike will be hoping for Brazil's swift return to the airwaves following this concerning health episode.
