Aaron Ramsey has been branded a 'coward' by a Mexican journalist after terminating his contract with Liga MX side UNAM Pumas to return to the UK following the disappearance of his dog. The midfielder made just six appearances for the club before his departure.
Ramsey's beagle, Halo, went missing on 9 October after being left at a dog shelter in the city of Dolores, in the state of Guanajuato. Despite a hefty reward, the search has been unsuccessful. Ramsey released a statement describing the ordeal as something that will 'continue to haunt' him and his family, who claim they were lied to by the owners of the ranch where the dog was left.
Speaking on Mexican platform Medio Tiempo, journalist José Manuel Escobedo criticised Ramsey's decision. 'This man loses his dog and says: "I'm leaving the country and I'm not coming back to work." What a bad example, Aaron Ramsey! Is that the example to young kids who will face difficult situations? You are telling them that the answer is to run away from your professional responsibilities,' Escobedo said.
Pumas have yet to officially confirm Ramsey's departure. However, head coach Efraín Juárez hinted an announcement is imminent, stating: 'In due course, the club will issue and provide information regarding that.'
Ramsey's football future is now uncertain as he searches for a new club. Despite recent injury struggles, he remains hopeful of representing Wales at the 2026 World Cup.
