Maxx Crosby's NFL future is once again under the spotlight following reports that the Los Angeles Rams may have the defensive tackle on their radar for a potential trade. Earlier this year, Crosby was set to join the Baltimore Ravens from the Las Vegas Raiders, but the AFC North team unexpectedly withdrew from the deal—which included two first-round picks—due to a failed physical.
Crosby underwent surgery to repair his meniscus after the 2025 season concluded, though his agent has insisted he is ahead of schedule in his recovery. When the Ravens trade fell through, Crosby returned to the Raiders and declared that Las Vegas would be his permanent home. However, it now appears that other rivals are willing to test that commitment.
According to Nate Atkins, who covers the Rams for The Athletic, Sean McVay's team could be willing to part with their 2027 first-round pick midway through the 2026 season if it means acquiring Crosby. The report suggests the Rams would be ready to strike if the Raiders endure a slow start to the season.
Rams' Trade Strategy
Atkins wrote in response to a question about Rams trade targets: 'I'd also keep an eye on Maxx Crosby. He seems to have mended things with the Las Vegas Raiders after the trade to the Baltimore Ravens was reversed, but the organization's approach could change if the Raiders hit another tough start to a season.'
He added: 'The Rams want to be one of the rare teams willing to trade from an expectedly loaded 2027 draft class, with the idea that they'll be picking at the very end of the first round. But those conversations are more likely in October than they are right now.'
Crosby's Discontent and Raiders' Rebuild
Crosby was deeply unhappy with how the 2025 season unfolded in Las Vegas and was pushing for a fresh start with a Super Bowl contender. However, in the aftermath of his failed Ravens trade, the Raiders have worked diligently to rebuild the team—far beyond selecting quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick in this year's draft.
The Raiders embarked on a $281.5 million spending spree at the start of free agency, recruiting center Tyler Linderbaum, Kwity Paye, Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker, and Taron Johnson. Additionally, Klint Kubiak, the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks in 2025, has taken over as head coach in Las Vegas.
Rams' Championship Window
The Rams would unquestionably be a fascinating proposition for Crosby, given his hunger for success. They have already traded a first-round pick for cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in 2026, as well as adding Jaylen Watson to the secondary. Their quarterback, Matthew Stafford, is one of the finest in the NFL, but at age 38, time is of the essence for both him and the Rams. The schedule for the next NFL season is expected to be released later this month.
