Gary Neville's Podcast Empire Earns Massive Monthly Revenue
Manchester United legend Gary Neville is reportedly earning over £1 million per month from his podcasting ventures, supplementing his existing salary as a Sky Sports pundit. This substantial income stream highlights the growing financial success of digital media projects led by former professional athletes.
Financial Breakdown of Buzz 16 Productions
Neville's company, Buzz 16 Productions, which manages his podcasting projects including the popular show The Overlap, generated an impressive £11.6 million in revenue last year. According to reports from The Sun, the company distributed approximately £4.6 million in salaries and pension payments during the same period.
Additionally, Neville and three other directors shared a dividend exceeding £3 million, demonstrating the profitable nature of their media enterprise. These figures underscore how former sports stars are successfully transitioning into media entrepreneurship.
The Overlap's Evolution and Recent Transaction
In January, Neville sold a majority stake in The Overlap to Global, the media conglomerate that operates Classic FM, Capital, and LBC. Reflecting on this transaction, Neville stated, "The Overlap started as an idea that we thought people might like and we went for it. It's a team that I love working with and I'm incredibly proud to be a part of. We never thought of it as a business, we just wanted to create something that people loved."
The podcast regularly features prominent football personalities including Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Ian Wright, and Jill Scott, along with high-profile guests such as Wayne Rooney, Ange Postecoglou, Ashley Cole, Rory McIlroy, and Gareth Bale. Neville also contributes to other programs like Stick To Football and Fan Debate, and participates in a brief Sky Sports podcast during Premier League coverage.
Punditry Insights on Upcoming FA Cup Clash
The financial revelations coincide with Neville, Keane, and Carragher offering their predictions for the upcoming FA Cup quarter-final between Manchester City and Liverpool, scheduled for Saturday, 4 April, at the Etihad Stadium. Liverpool enter the match as second favorites following a 3-0 defeat to City earlier this season.
Keane criticized Liverpool's recent performances, stating, "Liverpool are so bad. You know, one of the worst performances I've seen this season was Liverpool at Nottingham Forest – I know I'm going back six or eight weeks. I said they were bad champions." He predicted a 2-1 victory for City, while Neville and Carragher forecast a 3-1 win for Manchester City.
Manchester Clubs' Current Campaigns
Manchester City approach the fixture in excellent form, having recently secured a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final thanks to a brace from Nico O'Reilly. Pep Guardiola's team remains in contention for the Premier League title and aims for a domestic treble.
Conversely, Manchester United are focusing solely on the Premier League after early exits from domestic cups and missing European qualification due to last season's 15th-place finish. Under interim head coach Michael Carrick, United currently occupy third place in the league table, just six points behind second-placed City with seven matches remaining. Their next fixture is a home clash against Leeds United on Monday, 13 April.
