HSE Completes Probe into M&Ds Rollercoaster Crash

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has concluded its investigation into a rollercoaster derailment at M&Ds theme park in Motherwell, Scotland, which left nine people injured last June. The incident occurred when five gondolas on the Tsunami ride detached from their rails and fell 25 feet to the ground.

Seven children were among those hurt in the crash on June 26, 2016. A 12-year-old boy suffered chest, abdominal and leg injuries, while an 11-year-old boy sustained serious arm and hand injuries. Ten people were taken to hospitals in Glasgow and Wishaw, though a 25-year-old woman was later found to be uninjured.

Following a 15-month probe, the HSE has submitted a report to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). A Crown Office spokesman confirmed receipt of the report and stated that its own investigation, under the direction of the Crown's health and safety division, is ongoing to determine whether any prosecutions will be brought.

The Tsunami ride never reopened after the accident and was dismantled in February this year. Outdoor rides at the park were closed for almost a month following the crash. A spokeswoman for M&D's declined to comment on the ongoing investigations.
