Emergency services were called to a luxury hotel in County Fermanagh on Sunday afternoon after a person using a powered paraglider crashed into the property.
Emergency Response at Luxury Resort
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) raced to the Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen following reports of the incident. Video footage circulating online appears to show the moment of collision, with the paraglider striking part of the hotel structure. Crews are working to rescue the individual, who is believed to be on the roof of the building.
Hotel Issues Statement on Access Restrictions
The resort confirmed the incident in a statement on social media. "We can confirm that Emergency Services are in attendance as a result of an incident in which a person believed to be flying a paraglider was in collision with the hotel property," it read. The hotel moved quickly to manage the situation, stating that apart from the immediate area of the crash, the resort was operating normally and existing bookings were unaffected.
However, the statement imposed clear access restrictions: "Until the emergency services have completed their work, access to the resort will be restricted to resort guests and patrons of our restaurants." This measure was put in place to ensure the safety of the public and to allow emergency crews to work unimpeded.
Ongoing Incident and Investigation
The incident occurred on Sunday, 28 December 2025, with emergency crews still on the scene into the afternoon. The primary focus remains on safely recovering the paraglider from the roof. The circumstances leading to the crash are not yet clear and will likely be subject to investigation once the immediate rescue operation is complete.
Lough Erne Resort is a prominent five-star hotel and golf course located on the shores of Lough Erne, a major tourist destination in Northern Ireland. The resort has not commented further on the condition of the paraglider involved.
