Ronaldo faces six-month ban and fine after Portugal exit

Cristiano Ronaldo could face a suspension of up to six months and a fine after leaving Portugal's national team camp, according to reports. The forward walked off the pitch during Portugal's Nations League match against Norway at Ullevaal Stadion, frustrated by head coach Jorge Jesus' managerial decisions.

Crisis talks and departure

Following his abrupt departure in Oslo, Ronaldo reportedly held a crisis meeting involving Jesus and the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (PFF). On Wednesday evening, Ronaldo announced his exit from the squad on social media, citing conversations with both the coach and the PFF president before choosing to leave the training camp.

Ronaldo fueled speculation by promising to eventually reveal "the truth" behind his sudden exit to the Portuguese people, while wishing his team-mates success for the remaining fixtures.

Manager downplays rift

Jesus dismissed reports of friction, insisting to the press that no personal issue exists between them and maintaining that tactical choices rest solely with him.

Ronaldo's sister, Elma Aveiro, voiced outrage on social media, declaring her brother's international career effectively over and accusing Portuguese football, media, and fans of disrespect and ingratitude. She wrote: "CR7 deserved MORE RESPECT. The national team deserved more structure. Portuguese journalism deserved more competence and less speculation. As for the Portuguese people...they don't deserve to have the best at anything. We are envious, disrespectful and ignorant, and we deserve to return to the mediocrity we always had in football before CR7. Thank you for everything, CR7. You deserved MORE!"

Disciplinary action and squad changes

ESPN Brazil reports that Ronaldo could face a suspension ranging from one to six months—along with a potential fine—under PFF regulations regarding the unauthorised abandonment of national team duties.

Following Ronaldo's exit, Rafael Leao has been assigned the No. 7 shirt as Portugal prepares for Nations League matches against Denmark on Thursday and a rematch against Norway on Sunday, October 4.
