Marcus Rashford made his long-awaited Manchester United return, but it was not enough to prevent a 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in an action-packed pre-season friendly in Wroclaw, Poland. Milan came from behind twice before pulling away in sweltering conditions at the Tarczynski Arena.
Maguire heads United in front
Harry Maguire gave United a dream start inside two minutes, meeting a superb Bruno Fernandes corner to score. Samuel Chukwueze levelled before half-time, but Patrick Dorgu put Michael Carrick's men back in front early in the second half. Milan equalised again through Alphadjo Cisse before Goncalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored within three minutes of each other to seal the win.
Rashford's return and other talking points
Rashford came on as part of a raft of changes on the hour mark, wearing the iconic No.9 shirt, although United noted that squad numbers are yet to be confirmed. His introduction coincided with United's downfall. Fernandes also missed a penalty, his second in succession, after Youri Tielemans was brought down in the area. Dorgu's goal, his second in as many games, came from a poor back pass from Filippo Terracciano.
Amorim gets the better of his former club
The win will taste sweet for Amorim, who faced his former club for the first time since leaving. Milan had struggled in pre-season but ended it on a high ahead of their Serie A opener away to Torino. United, meanwhile, suffered defeat in their final friendly before next Saturday's opening Premier League game at newly promoted Hull City.
