Three results from Misfits Boxing's latest event could be changed following a controversial judging row, with Joey Essex and Dapper Laughs having fought to a draw in London on Saturday. Misfits chief Mams Taylor confirmed that three undisclosed bouts are being investigated using the jury system.
Controversial Decisions
Many fans believed Dapper Laughs deserved the victory over reality TV star Joey Essex, while the co-main event between Swarmz and Ambush also ended in a draw across four rounds. The opening bout saw Carla Jade claim an unpopular victory over Erika Night.
Taylor voiced his surprise at the main event result before confirming the investigations. "I spoke to the commission at length," he said. "Three fight results from last night are officially under review using the jury system. Any judge with a crazy scorecard should be suspended, in my opinion, but that's an ongoing conversation."
Potential Overturns
Taylor addressed the possibility of results being overturned, saying: "If any result is overturned as a result of the jury system, of course, the deserving fighter will not get the moment of glory he/she deserves in the ring after the fight, and that sucks; however, this is the next best thing."
"Most importantly, whoever earned a win should be awarded that on their record. I applaud the commission for taking the steps to get this right. We will get this right."
Fighters' Reactions
Both Essex and Dapper believed they deserved to claim the win. Essex told The Mirror: "It was a good fight but I nicked the first three rounds and let him have the last one. From a judge's point of view, he won the last one and I thought that, why did I let him have the last round? I should have stepped it up."
Dapper commented: "I thought it was mine, I thought I rocked him enough. I got off some heavy shots and felt I boxed well. But I'm not going to take anything away from him; he punched a lot harder than I thought he was going to. Definitely do not underestimate Joey Essex."
"I thought he looked tidier than he did in his last fight and that stiff, straight jab and those straight shots... I was trying to look good, moving round him but I was wary of him. He caught me a couple of times but I felt like I got him rocked on his feet. He was holding on to me a couple of times. But I just hope I gave a good account of myself."
The jury system review could lead to retrospective changes to the results, with Taylor confirming the commission is taking steps to address the matter.
