Carrick Under Pressure After United's Late Spurs Draw
Carrick Under Pressure After United's Late Spurs Draw

Michael Carrick is facing mounting pressure at Manchester United after the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by ten-man Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday. The result leaves United 13th in the Premier League table, and a fan poll has delivered a damning verdict on the manager's prospects.

Fan Poll Shows Lack of Confidence

After the match, MEN Sport asked United readers: 'Did you see enough from Manchester United against Tottenham to think they will turn a corner soon?' From 1,628 responses, 87 per cent voted 'No', with six per cent 'Unsure'. Worryingly for Carrick, just seven per cent voted 'Yes'.

This leaves the United boss with a headache ahead of tomorrow night's trip to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. That is followed by a visit to fierce rivals Leeds on Sunday. United cannot afford to lose either and, ideally, need to win both to ease pressure on Carrick.

Match Details and Late Drama

Spurs, who have not won a Premier League match this season, were much the better side in the first half and were unfortunate not to be ahead. After a sloppy start, United needed to regroup and, against the run of play, they took the lead.

Bryan Mbeumo delivered a hammer blow to Tottenham with less than 20 minutes remaining to put the Reds in the ascendency. Rodrigo Bentancur's foolish red card moments later looked to have handed the win to United. However, Dominic Solanke's late equaliser for Spurs denied United the win.

Carrick's Positive Take

Although United fans were left underwhelmed by the performance against Spurs, Carrick was able to pick out a positive. He told the media post-match that he was pleased with the response to their poor start.
