Michael Clarke's $20m Vaucluse Property Purchase & Test XI Selection
Michael Clarke buys $20m Sydney mansion in Vaucluse

Former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke has made a spectacular addition to his property portfolio, securing a magnificent six-bedroom mansion in Sydney's exclusive Vaucluse suburb for approximately $20million.

A Prestigious Property Acquisition

The 44-year-old sports personality has discreetly purchased this impressive three-level family home, situated just streets away from his current Vaucluse residence. The property spans more than 1000 square metres of land and offers around 800 square metres of internal living space, representing a significant real estate investment in one of Sydney's most desirable locations.

Nestled behind an expansive street frontage and beautifully maintained gardens, the double-brick and concrete residence boasts six bathrooms, multiple living areas, and parking for two vehicles. The outdoor area features a full-sized north-facing championship tennis court, complemented by a gas-heated swimming pool and sun-drenched terraces perfect for entertaining.

Luxurious Interior Features

Inside, visitors are greeted by a grand entry hall featuring a circular ceiling and sculptural staircase that leads to both formal and casual living zones. The main level is anchored by a Calacatta marble gourmet kitchen equipped with premium Smeg and Highland appliances, alongside a custom cocktail bar and integrated Sonos sound system.

The lower level contains a rumpus and media zone that flows directly out to the pool and landscaped gardens, complete with a dedicated gym space. Upstairs, the main bedroom suite includes a generous ensuite and dressing area, while the remaining bedrooms are configured for family living and guests.

Property records indicate the home last sold in 2007 for $7million and was initially guided at around $25 million earlier this year before Clarke secured it through a private treaty deal. Clarke currently lives nearby in another Vaucluse property he purchased in 2021 for $13million, having previously sold his former matrimonial home with ex-wife Kyly for $12million.

Cricket Commentary and Test Team Selection

Beyond his growing real estate investments, Clarke has been active in cricket commentary, recently naming his preferred XI for the first Test in Perth. His selected team includes:

  • Usman Khawaja and Jake Weatherald as openers
  • Marnus Labuschagne at number three
  • Steve Smith at four and Travis Head at five
  • Cameron Green as the all-rounder at six
  • Alex Carey as wicketkeeper
  • A bowling attack featuring Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland

Clarke strongly advocated for specialist batting positions in Test cricket, insisting that Labuschagne must return to number three, describing him as Australia's best in that role since Ricky Ponting. He also backed Weatherald to open alongside Khawaja, praising his consistent performance on challenging Sheffield Shield pitches.

The former captain reserved his strongest comments for young opener Sam Konstas, arguing the player had been poorly managed following his breakout series against India last summer. Clarke expressed disappointment that Konstas missed opportunities to open in Sri Lanka and participate in the World Test Championship Final at Lord's, experiences he believed would have valuable prepared the youngster for the Ashes series.

Clarke's new Vaucluse neighbourhood includes prominent residents such as radio host Kyle Sandilands and his wife Tegan, alongside former Westpac boss David Morgan and his wife, former federal minister Ros Kelly.
