Travis Head Questions Fan Sobriety After Adelaide Ashes Day Test
Head: Will Fans Be Fit for Dinner After Day Test?

Australian cricket star Travis Head has cast doubt on whether supporters will be in a fit state to patronise local businesses after a full day of watching the Ashes in Adelaide.

Head's Concerns Over Day Test Timing

The 31-year-old batsman, a cult hero in his home state, questioned the logic of hosting a traditional day Test match, which South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas champions to boost the local economy. Head pointed out that with gates opening at 7.30am on Wednesday morning, fans would likely be "enjoying themselves" well before the first ball was bowled.

"I don't know if many people will actually be fit to go to the restaurants by the end of the day," Head told Fairfax. He suggested the early start and the festive pace set in the stands might leave fewer patrons than hoped for in the city's bars and restaurants come stumps.

Smith's Shock Withdrawal Amid Health Scare

The build-up to the third Test was thrown into chaos with the late withdrawal of batting maestro Steve Smith. The 36-year-old veteran was ruled out just before day one after suffering from nausea and dizziness.

A Cricket Australia statement confirmed Smith was being treated for a potential vestibular issue, something he has experienced intermittently in the past. Despite a late fitness test and being "close to being available," the persistence of his symptoms led to the decision to sideline him.

The statement added that Smith is expected to be available for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. His place was taken by Usman Khawaja, who capitalised on the opportunity with an unbeaten half-century.

Series Context and Economic Hopes

The match holds immense significance, as the hosts only need a draw to secure the Ashes urn. Off the field, Premier Malinauskas has been a vocal advocate for the day Test format, believing it encourages fans to contribute to Adelaide's wider economy in the evenings.

Head, while sceptical about the post-play dining plans of merry fans, expressed his personal delight that most days at the Adelaide Oval are sold out, stating he is "looking forward to the week."
