Oleksandr Usyk has confirmed he plans to retire from boxing at the age of 41 and has dismissed the prospect of facing unbeaten British prospect Moses Itauma. The Ukrainian, 38, became a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion after knocking out Daniel Dubois in his most recent fight at Wembley Stadium.
Speaking to Ukraine’s UNN on Thursday, Usyk said: “I train every day... with the goal of entering the ring next year and, with God’s help, winning.” He added: “With Itauma? I won’t fight him. He’s young... and he said he doesn’t hit old men.”
Usyk, who holds victories over Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, stated he will box until he is 41, then build a sports academy in Ukraine. He also revealed he has returned to training after a recent injury, which caused him to withdraw from negotiations for a mandatory fight against Joseph Parker.
Meanwhile, Itauma, 20, is seeking an opponent for a planned bout on 13 December at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, on the same card as Derek Chisora’s 50th and final professional fight.
