The boxing world is in mourning following the death of former US Olympian Vanes Martirosyan at the age of 39.
Martirosyan passed away after a determined fight against skin cancer, a disease he was diagnosed with in 2023.

His family confirmed the tragic news on social media on Sunday, describing their hearts as 'shattered'. In a moving online post, they paid homage to 'an incredible man' who possessed 'a kind soul'.
Born in Armenia, Martirosyan's family relocated to California when he was just four years old, where his boxing journey would eventually begin.
From Olympic Prospect to World Title Challenger
Martirosyan's talent propelled him to the global stage at a young age. He represented the United States at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, competing when he was only 18 years old.
After his amateur career, he turned professional and built an impressive record. Out of 41 professional fights, he secured 36 victories. His skill and determination earned him three opportunities to fight for a world title.
He ultimately retired from the sport after his final bout in 2018, a loss against the formidable middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
