Jake Paul has revealed that the broken jaw he sustained in his December loss to Anthony Joshua could potentially end his boxing career. The YouTuber-turned-boxer was stopped by the former world champion after a brutal shot, and five months later, the injury is still being monitored.
Speaking to Uncrowned on Monday, Paul said: “We’ll see what my doctors say. I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm and possibilities of things [that I can’t].” He added that his jaw feels much better but he needs clearance to spar.
Paul acknowledged the possibility of his career being over, stating: “It just depends on how the bone heals. Then, also, there’s a tooth missing. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get an implanted tooth of some sort.” He emphasised the need to determine the smartest course of action.
The defeat to Joshua was only the second loss in Paul’s 14-fight professional career. Despite being a competent but limited boxer, his opponents have included a 58-year-old Mike Tyson and former NBA player Nate Robinson. The 29-year-old has earned tens of millions from his fights and expressed no regrets about facing Joshua.
“I think it was such a win on so many different levels,” Paul said. “Just overall, such a net positive for me, my companies, my fighting experience, my content.” He reiterated his willingness to fight anyone for entertainment purposes.
