Boxing world champion Tyson Fury attended the funeral of Ricky Hatton's father in Manchester, wearing a colourful suit adorned with pictures of himself. The funeral procession began at Gee Cross and passed through Hyde towards Manchester Cathedral, where a private service was held.
Fury's choice of attire drew comments, but promoter Lou Dibella defended him, stating that Hatton would have appreciated the gesture. The funeral cortege later moved to the Etihad Stadium, home of Hatton's beloved Manchester City, where his son Campbell was moved to tears by a tribute.
Former featherweight champion Barry McGuigan paid his respects, calling it a sad day and praising Hatton as a great man. The funeral was a fitting send-off for a humble hero who achieved remarkable things.
Hatton's family has established the Ricky Hatton Foundation, a mental health charity aiming to raise awareness and remove stigma around mental illness.
