Love Island finalist Tommy Fury is reportedly planning to quit boxing to focus on reality television and brand deals, according to sources close to the fighter.
The 20-year-old light-heavyweight, who came runner-up on the ITV show alongside girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague, turned professional last year after a promising amateur career under the tutelage of Ricky Hatton and promoter Frank Warren.
A television source told The Sun that Fury is considering stepping away from the sport "for a while" due to an influx of opportunities. "Tommy knows he is in a unique position with work opportunities coming out of his ears," the source said. "He has TV projects on the table, as well as lucrative branding deals, so wants to concentrate on those for a year so he can set himself up for the future."
His brother, former world champion Tyson Fury, had initially advised against appearing on Love Island, warning he might get "carried away" with TV fame. However, Tyson later changed his stance, noting the boost in popularity. "He's got more of a following than if he would've had 40 professional fights," he told The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan. "So I think it's a very good move. People will want to come and see him fight."
