Campbell Hatton, son of the late boxing legend Ricky Hatton, has shared an emotional tribute following his father’s death at age 46. The former world welterweight champion was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Sunday morning. Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances.
In his first public comments since the tragedy, Campbell posted a series of family photos on social media with the caption: “Heartbroken isn’t the word. Everybody has always said I was your double – never a truer word said. Looked up to you in every aspect of life.” He added: “Can’t explain how much I’m going to miss the laughs we had and all the good times, which I will remember forever. Just can’t believe we won’t have any more. Love you, Dad.”
Like his father, Campbell pursued a career in boxing, making his professional debut in 2021 before retiring this year. The Hatton family issued a statement via Greater Manchester Police on Monday, saying they were “deeply moved” by the outpouring of love and support. “Richard was so much more than a world champion. To us he was simply ‘Richard’, our son. A loving father, grandfather and brother, and a true friend to many,” the statement read.
The family described Hatton as having “a heart as big as his smile” and noted his kindness, humour and loyalty. “To the wider world, Richard will always be remembered as one of boxing’s greatest champions – a man who gave everything inside the ring and wore his heart on his sleeve outside of it,” they added.
