Former world champion boxer Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton has been found dead at his home in Gee Cross, Hyde, Greater Manchester. The 46-year-old was discovered on September 14, with Greater Manchester Police confirming the death is not being treated as suspicious.
In a statement, Hatton's family expressed their shock and grief, saying: 'We are all distraught at the events of recent days. To all our knowledge, despite his well-documented struggles, Richard was in a good place.' The father-of-three had spoken openly about his battles with mental health and drug addiction, and had survived previous suicide attempts.
Hatton's former trainer Blain Younis paid tribute, recalling the honour of training his childhood hero for an exhibition bout in 2022. Younis wrote on Instagram: 'I can't believe it's the end of our road but he's at peace now and I truly hope he's in a better place.'
The Stockport-born fighter held multiple world championships and was named Fighter of the Year in 2015. His death comes months after he announced a return to boxing with a fight planned for December.
