Paris Fury Reveals the 'Severe' Factor That Could End Tyson's Boxing Career
Paris Fury, wife of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, has publicly shared what she believes could be the definitive reason for her husband to finally step away from the ring permanently. This revelation comes amidst Tyson's ongoing pattern of announcing retirement only to make subsequent comebacks, most recently defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov in a return bout.
The Retirement Conundrum: A Family Perspective
During promotional activities for the new series of At Home with the Furys, which documents Tyson's boxing comeback alongside the family's chaotic domestic life, Paris and their daughter Venezuela were questioned about what might ultimately convince Tyson to retire. Venezuela humorously suggested it would require something drastic like losing the use of his hands or a leg. However, Paris offered a more serious insight, indicating she doesn't believe the decision will originate from Tyson himself.
"I think it's going to be something severe," Paris told Heat Magazine. "I hope the penny drops and he thinks, 'You know what? It's time to give up the gloves now'. But I don't know when that will be." This statement underscores the uncertainty surrounding Tyson's future in boxing, despite his repeated retirement announcements over the years.
Tyson's Current Stance and Future Plans
Following his latest victory, the 37-year-old champion has insisted he still has at least one more fight left in him, specifically calling out British rival Anthony Joshua. From the ring at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tyson directly challenged Joshua, saying, "I challenge you, Anthony Joshua, to fight me next. Do you accept?" He further taunted Joshua, claiming, "I punched you up when we were kids and I'll punch you up again. You aren't going to tell me what to do, I've been chasing you for 10 years."
Tyson has emphasized that he is "not interested in boxing" again unless it's a match against Anthony Joshua, stating, "It's either him or I'm gone again. I only care about AJ now." He described this potential bout as "the defining fight for British boxing," highlighting its significance for the sport's landscape in the UK.
Paris's Support and Concerns
While supporting Tyson at the event, Paris revealed she has repeatedly encouraged him to consider retirement and explore alternative pursuits. She told the Daily Mail, "I kept suggesting to him, 'Why don’t you train people as a boxer? Why don’t you get involved in something that you enjoy?'" However, she acknowledged the challenges, noting Tyson's lack of hobbies and singular focus on boxing.
Reflecting on his failed retirement attempts, Paris added, "He couldn't find anything else good. No matter what we did, we couldn’t find him something he enjoyed. It's hard. It's hard work, a one-track mind with him." This insight reveals the personal struggles behind Tyson's career decisions, as Paris balances support with concern for his well-being.
The couple, parents to seven children including daughter Venezuela, continue to navigate Tyson's boxing career amidst ongoing speculation about his retirement. With Paris hinting that only a "severe" issue might force his hand, the boxing world watches closely to see if the long-anticipated fight with Anthony Joshua will materialize or if another retirement announcement is on the horizon.
