Boxing pundit Johnny Nelson has delivered his verdict on a potential heavyweight showdown between British stars Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois – and his prediction might surprise fans.
Speaking ahead of Dubois' upcoming fight against Oleksandr Usyk, Nelson suggested that the younger fighter could have the edge over the former two-time world champion.
Nelson's Bold Prediction
"I think Dubois beats AJ right now," Nelson declared. "He's younger, fresher, and has that fearlessness of youth. Joshua's experience is undeniable, but Dubois has the tools to cause problems."
The Sky Sports analyst pointed to Dubois' improved performances since his 2020 defeat to Joe Joyce, noting his devastating knockout power and growing confidence.
The Usyk Factor
Nelson's comments come as Dubois prepares to challenge unified champion Usyk in Poland. While most consider this a tough ask for the Londoner, Nelson believes the fight could reveal much about Dubois' championship credentials.
"If Daniel can give Usyk real problems, it shows he belongs at this level," Nelson explained. "That would make a future Joshua fight even more intriguing."
Joshua's Road Back
For Joshua, currently rebuilding after back-to-back losses to Usyk, Nelson stressed the importance of regaining his killer instinct.
"AJ needs to rediscover that mean streak," said Nelson. "When he's aggressive and lets his hands go, few can live with him. But he's been too cautious lately."
The boxing world will be watching closely to see if these two British heavyweights eventually collide in what would be a blockbuster domestic showdown.
