Leigh Angler John Lloyd Wins Monday Night Series by Ounces

The Liverpool and District Monday Night Series concluded with a remarkably tight finish, as just ounces separated the top three weights on a warm and muggy evening. The Lloyd brothers from Leigh continued their winning streak, with John Lloyd taking top honours.

Victory by a Narrow Margin

John Lloyd, the younger of the two brothers, opted for an approach targeting bream. He successfully landed two good bream and several skimmers, achieving a winning weight of 6lb 13oz. The field had high hopes for the session, as evidence of plenty of bream was clear on this prolific area, noted for decades.

Family Traditions Continue

The father-and-son duo Paul and Gareth Charnock also made the frame. Gareth outshone his father with a tench and a bream weighing 6lb 7oz, edging Paul out by just 1oz. Paul weighed in a decent bream alongside some skimmers for 6lb 6oz.

Midweek Matches Gain Popularity

Midweek matches are becoming popular among anglers using canal circuits, especially given the busy banks on weekends. Last Thursday, anglers headed to the Scarisbrick Arms at Downholland, where bream were a major feature. John Easton of Blundellsands won with a net of bream and skimmers weighing 14lb 12oz, using a bread and caster approach. Steve Boyd of Wirral took an all-roach catch of 7lb 2oz using hemp from the end peg by the rushes.

Other Notable Catches

Chris Diamond of Liverpool traveled to Shropshire's Weston Pools and landed a superb 107lb 1oz of F1s. Diamond, known for his winning ways, plans to travel 400 miles to a Bream Fest on Loch Ken in Scotland. On the local club scene, the Alliance & District held a home match on Chapel Pool, where Paul Fletcher took 101lb 4oz of carp on pellet. Dave Langton of Southport took second with 96lb 6oz, and Peter Turner third with 73lb 1oz, with several weights over 60lb.
