Amir Khan has urged Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury to retire after their fight and avoid a clash with Daniel Dubois.
Both Joshua and Fury will finally settle their decade-long feud on December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The prize pot for the all-British heavyweight showdown is reportedly £150 million. With both fighters coming towards the tail end of their careers, Khan has sent the pair some crucial advice.
Khan's Retirement Advice
The 39-year-old Olympic medallist believes that regardless of the outcome, they should both ride off into the sunset after their Cardiff clash and enjoy retirement. Speaking to Hard Rock Bet, Khan stated: "Maybe Joshua will want a rematch against Daniel if he beats Tyson but I don’t think either of them should fight Dubois."
"You are fighting in the biggest fight in British history, and they will both make so much money so just have the fight that the fans have been waiting for so long and enjoy retirement with your family and health intact because they have both sacrificed so much."
Dubois's Recent Dominance
A fight with Dubois should not be on Joshua or Fury's radar, believes Khan. Joshua was famously stopped by Dubois in front of over 90,000 fans at Wembley two years ago. Dubois was last seen in action earlier this month when he brutally dismantled Fabio Wardley in the second round.
Dubois has many options on the table after retaining his heavyweight title at the O2 Arena, but Khan believes the Brit should take on boxing veteran Deontay Wilder next. "It is hard because all of the world titles are all over the place. You’ve got Filip Hrgovic, Agit Kabayel and then there is Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua at the end of this year. Oleksandr Usyk, nobody is touching him. Maybe he could be tempted to fight if the money is right," he continued.
Wilder as a Potential Opponent
"Usyk deserves to do anything he wants because he has proven himself as the best of his generation. If I was him, I would retire there is nothing left to achieve. Dubois has so much power and we saw it against Anthony Joshua and now Fabio Wardley. There’s no disgrace in losing to him."
"If I was Daniel, a fight against Deontay Wilder could be a great fight for him. It will maybe strengthen his profile in the United States and he will be fighting a legend and somebody who is a huge name in boxing. Wilder defended the world title so many times when he was champion, had great fights against Tyson Fury and he still wants to fight so why not?"
