Anthony Joshua's Comeback Plan: A Secret Fight Before Christmas
British boxing star Anthony Joshua is preparing for a dramatic and unexpected return to the ring, with a decision on his next fight expected imminently. The two-time heavyweight world champion has been absent from the sport since his devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley last September.
According to his promoter, Eddie Hearn, Joshua is seeking a low-key "tune-up fight" before setting his sights on a monumental domestic clash with Tyson Fury next year. In a surprising strategic shift, this comeback bout could happen with barely any public notice.
The Secret Fight Strategy
Eddie Hearn has revealed an unconventional plan for Joshua's return. "We will make a decision this week on his next fight," Hearn stated. "If he fights this year you probably won't hear about it, we would literally rock up on fight week."
The promoter elaborated on this stealth approach, explaining that they already have potential opponents in mind for what would be a low-profile appearance. The intention is for Joshua to "chill out, turn up on the Thursday, weigh in and go and fight" without the usual extensive pre-fight promotion.
Hearn acknowledged the bizarre nature of this plan, noting "there's no money in the fight" and that they wouldn't be using Joshua's star power to sell tickets. Instead, the former champion would "just pop up on a show" with the goal of getting back to winning ways by smashing up an opponent.
Jake Paul Talks and Training Changes
One notable exception to this under-the-radar strategy would be a bout with YouTube sensation turned boxer Jake Paul. Hearn confirmed that discussions have taken place regarding a potential match, though no formal offer has been made.
"If we were to have a run-out, a run-out against Jake Paul would be nice," Hearn admitted, before adding his belief that Paul "isn't mad enough" to take on the heavyweight contender. This comes after Paul's planned exhibition fight with Gervonta Davis was cancelled following assault allegations against Davis.
Meanwhile, Joshua is also undergoing significant changes in his training setup. Having worked with trainer Ben Davison for his last three fights, the Olympic champion is now searching for a new coaching team as he prepares for what he sees as the final chapter of his career. He was recently spotted visiting Oleksandr Usyk's training camp in Spain, having previously been trained by notable names including Tony Sims, Rob McCracken, Robert Garcia and Derrick James.
With a potential fight date before Christmas and major bouts on the horizon, the boxing world waits to see where and when the British heavyweight will make his unexpected return to the ring.
