Oasis are expected to pay tribute to boxing legend Ricky Hatton during their upcoming Wembley Stadium show on September 27, as part of their comeback tour. The Mancunian icon, who was a close friend of the Gallagher brothers and a devoted Oasis fan, was found dead at his home in Hyde on Sunday at the age of 46.
According to reports, the band plan to remember Hatton during a performance of 'Live Forever', a song that held special significance for the boxer. Hatton's son Campbell used the track in an emotional Instagram tribute, writing: 'Everybody has always said I was your double - never a truer word said.'
Hatton's friendship with Oasis spanned years, with Liam and Noel Gallagher famously carrying his championship belts into the ring before his 2008 fight against Pauli Malignaggi in Las Vegas. He attended one of the band's Dublin shows just weeks before his death, thanking Noel for tickets afterwards.
The tribute follows a similar gesture at the band's Cardiff show in July, where an image of late footballer Diogo Jota was projected on screens. Liam Gallagher posted on X: 'Absolutely devastated to hear the news about RICKY HATTON it was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER LG x.'
Hatton, a four-time world champion in two weight classes, leaves behind parents Carol and Ray, children Campbell, Millie, Fearne, and granddaughter Lyla. His son Campbell's tribute concluded: 'Can't explain how much I'm going to miss the laughs we had and all the good times, which I will remember forever.'
