UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has withdrawn a charge against British heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte, clearing him of any wrongdoing after a sample he provided in June 2019 showed trace amounts of steroid metabolites. UKAD determined that the levels were consistent with an isolated contamination event and not suggestive of doping.
Whyte, 31, provided the sample on June 20, a month before his heavyweight title fight against Oscar Rivas at the O2 in London. UKAD stated that after rigorous investigation, it was satisfied that the presence of the metabolites was not caused by any fault, negligence, or wrongdoing on Whyte's part, and could not have affected the fight on July 20, 2019.
Whyte posted a picture of UKAD's statement on Twitter, writing: 'For those who believed in me I won’t forget you. To those who didn’t, I won’t forgive you and I know who you are.' The Jamaica-born boxer beat Colombian fighter Rivas on points in July, having recovered from a ninth-round knockdown.
Whyte is set to return to the ring on Saturday night, fighting Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. rematch in Saudi Arabia. The British Boxing Board of Control has been informed of the resolution of the proceedings, UKAD said.
