Saudi boxing matchmaker Turki Alalshikh has revealed that Canelo Alvarez will earn more than $100m as part of his four-fight deal with the Kingdom. The revelation came during Thursday's pre-fight press conference ahead of Alvarez's clash with Terence Crawford on Saturday.
When a reporter suggested Alvarez would be the first Mexican sports figure with a guaranteed purse of at least $100m, Alalshikh interjected: 'No, you get the number wrong. The contract between us and Canelo [is] more than that.' It remains unclear whether the figure refers to Saturday's purse or the wider deal, but it appeared to be the latter.
Alvarez, 35, will defend his undisputed super-middleweight titles against Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday. The bout is the second of a four-fight agreement with Saudi Arabia, following Alvarez's win over William Scull in May, with two more contests scheduled for 2026.
Crawford, 37, aims to become the first three-weight undisputed champion of the modern era, having previously held all major titles at super-lightweight and welterweight. At Friday's weigh-in, both fighters tipped the scales at 167.5lb, with Crawford moving up two divisions from his previous career-high of 154lb.
