Keely Hodgkinson is looking to successfully defend her title as she takes to the track for the women's 800m final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham tonight. The 24-year-old is hunting a third consecutive European title and, having missed the Commonwealth Games, is in superb form heading into Friday night's final. After cruising to victory in the opening heat of the competition, Hodgkinson also won her semi-final on Thursday afternoon, with another gold medal now firmly in her sights.
Rise to Stardom
The golden girl of British athletics, Hodgkinson was propelled to stardom after winning gold at the Paris Olympics in 2024, having already topped the podium in European competition and claimed Olympic and Commonwealth silver. After an injury-hit season, she won gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championship in March, weeks after shattering the indoor 800m world record time.
Her success on the track has helped make her a star away from it, with her stock continuing to rise, as well as her personal fortune. Hodgkinson - who was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2024 - has signed endorsement deals with major brands including Nike, Omega and Vitality since breaking on to the scene.
Net Worth and Endorsements
Her exact net worth has not been publicly disclosed but, having sat at £250,000 prior to the last Olympics, it has been projected to reach the region of £4 million by the time the next Games get underway in 2028. Earlier this year, she released her own collaborative training and racing collection with Nike, admitting that it had been a lifelong dream of hers to do so.
"This was such a fun process!!!," she wrote as she shared snaps of a photoshoot with the sportswear giant on Instagram. "Thank you to Nike for bringing this to life. Such a dream. If you told 10-year-old Keels she'd have her own collaborative collection out with Nike, she'd have died. Hope y'all love it as much as I do."
Personal Life and Dating
With Hodgkinson the talk of the athletics world, interest in her personal life has also grown in recent times, with the track star reportedly going on secret dates with former Love Island star Casey O'Gorman earlier this year. According to The Sun, the pair initially began exchanging "flirty messages" before meeting up, with O'Gorman believed to share her love of running. However, while the publication reported that there was "real sexual chemistry" between them, any romantic relationship between Hodgkinson and the former Islander has now fizzled out.
It comes after the Team GB star revealed that she had previously dated a fellow runner for three years before they went their separate ways in January 2023 due to distance and differing schedules. "Long-distance killed it," she told The Sunday Times of her relationship with the unnamed runner in an October 2024 interview. "He was living in Texas and then Italy, and with my schedule, we could go weeks without seeing each other. It was tough." She added that she was happily single, adding: "I'm not really interested in dating right now. I've never been on the apps. I like meeting people in real life."
