Nana Kwaku Bonsam, the Ghanaian witch doctor who claimed to have cursed England captain Harry Kane, has now lifted the spell after the Three Lions' 0-0 draw with Ghana in Boston. The 32-year-old Bayern Munich striker squandered several easy chances during the match, which Bonsam attributed to his supernatural intervention.
Witch Doctor's Declaration
In a video message, Bonsam stated: "I am the most powerful spiritualist in the world. I am now going to release Harry Kane so that he can score in England's next match." He added jokingly that Kane "shouldn't be offended" and that they are "friends." The witch doctor then thanked his ancestors and reiterated his claim to being "the most powerful spiritualist in the world."
Source of Power
Bonsam asserts that his magic originates from the Kofi Oo Kofi shrine and describes himself as "Africa's only authentic man." His offered powers include rituals, guidance, spiritual healing, and protection. Before the game, he told Daily Star Sport: "I am working on Harry Kane. I have shown what I am capable of before so I know what work I must do to stop him. I am very famous for my predictions." He clarified: "I am not wishing him serious injury. It will be just enough to stop him against my country. I will do my work so that it can help Ghana."
Previous Football Curse
This is not the first time Bonsam has targeted a football star. In 2014, he claimed responsibility for a knee injury that threatened Cristiano Ronaldo's participation in the World Cup ahead of Portugal's match against Ghana. At the time, Bonsam said: "I know what Cristiano Ronaldo's injury is about, I'm working on him. I am very serious about it. Last week, I went around looking for four dogs and I got them to be used in manufacturing a special spirit called Kahwiri Kapam." He added: "I said it four months ago that I will work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously and rule him out of the World Cup or at least prevent him from playing against Ghana and the best thing I can do is to keep him out through injury. This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day it is something else."
