Jake Minshull, a 21-year-old 400m hurdler, is aiming to capitalize on his local knowledge at next week's European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The Coventry native, who studies human sciences in the city, trains three times a week at Alexander Stadium, the competition venue.

Minshull feels the event is almost a home meet, given his familiarity with the track and conditions. He has adjusted his university schedule to balance training and studies, splitting his third year to manage the demands.
His recent performances include a 4x400m bronze at the World Relay Championships in May and a silver in the 400m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a result he described as surreal and beyond expectations.
Strong Competition
Minshull will face a formidable field, including Germany's Emil Agyekum and Norway's Karsten Warholm, the Olympic champion and world record holder. He acknowledges the depth of the event but draws inspiration from Warholm's racing style.
The European Championships mark a significant opportunity for Minshull, who is part of a 98-strong GB & NI squad. His recent success has boosted his confidence as he aims for more medals on home soil.
