Liz Truss Tells CPAC UK Is ‘Failing’ and Needs Maga-Style Movement

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has told a rightwing conference in the United States that Britain is “failing” and requires a Donald Trump-style “Maga” movement to save it. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland, Truss claimed the country is run by a “deep state” of unelected bureaucrats and judges.

“We now have a major problem in Britain that judges are making decisions that should be made by politicians,” she said, arguing that the judiciary is “no longer accountable” due to reforms by Tony Blair. Truss, who served only 49 days as PM and lost her seat in the last general election, has become an increasingly marginal figure in British politics but found support at CPAC, which has embraced Trump’s populist agenda.

Truss called for a movement akin to America’s “Make America Great Again” to push for change, saying: “We want to have a British CPAC.” Matt Schlapp, the CPAC organiser, replied: “It’s a deal!” The conference also featured figures such as Steve Bannon and Eduardo Bolsonaro, who discussed deeper cooperation among rightwing populists globally.

Bannon pushed conspiracy theories about a “globalist cabal” and urged conservatives to “take” power from liberal forces. The event included a resolution opposing “globalism,” which was unanimously approved.
