Former Labour MP Apsana Sultana has launched a scathing attack on Jeremy Corbyn, accusing him of mishandling the antisemitism crisis within the party and failing to deliver a coherent Brexit strategy. In a blistering critique, Sultana claimed that Corbyn's leadership had left the party in disarray, alienating both members and voters.
'A Legacy of Division'
Sultana, who served as the MP for Poplar and Limehouse, did not hold back in her assessment of Corbyn's tenure. She argued that his inability to address antisemitism allegations decisively had tarnished Labour's reputation, while his ambiguous stance on Brexit further eroded public trust.
'The Labour Party under Corbyn became synonymous with division and indecision,' Sultana said. 'Members deserved better, and so did the country.'
Brexit Blunders
She also took aim at Corbyn's approach to Brexit, describing it as 'woefully inadequate'. According to Sultana, his failure to articulate a clear position left voters confused and contributed to Labour's disastrous performance in the 2019 general election.
'Brexit was a defining issue, and Corbyn's lack of leadership cost us dearly,' she added.
Calls for Accountability
Sultana's comments come amid ongoing debates about the future direction of the Labour Party. She urged current leader Keir Starmer to learn from past mistakes and ensure greater transparency and accountability within the party.
'We cannot afford to repeat the errors of the past,' she warned. 'The Labour Party must rebuild trust with its supporters and the wider public.'
