Labour has intensified pressure on Nigel Farage to reveal which authorities are probing an alleged Russian hack connected to a £5 million gift he reportedly received. Anna Turley, the Labour chairwoman, called on the Clacton MP to publicly state whether he reported the suspected cyber-attack to the police or the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
Reform UK's Response
A spokesperson for Reform UK confirmed that the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities, but declined to provide further details due to ongoing investigations. The party stressed that it is cooperating fully with the inquiries.
Details of the Donation
Farage received £5 million from Thailand-based crypto-entrepreneur Christopher Harborne in 2024. Initially, Farage claimed the funds were for non-political purposes, later describing them as a 'reward for campaigning for Brexit'. The timing and nature of the donation have raised questions about transparency and potential foreign influence.
Former NCSC head Professor Ciaran Martin cast doubt on Farage’s interpretation of the alleged hack, dismissing it as 'without any merit'. Martin's comments add to the growing scrutiny surrounding the incident.
Labour’s challenge comes amid broader concerns about cybersecurity and political donations. The party urges Farage to clarify the authorities involved to ensure public trust in the electoral process.
