Former Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene has expressed fears that President Donald Trump might attempt to cancel the 2028 presidential election by invoking a state of war. During an appearance on Alex Jones Live on Thursday, Greene voiced her concerns about Trump's repeated allusions to suspending elections during wartime.
Greene's Warning on Trump's Intentions
Greene, who broke with Trump after calling for the release of the Epstein files, referenced a meeting where Trump jokingly suggested canceling elections. "I'm concerned," she said. "And he said it jokingly. But at the same time, knowing President Trump, I looked at that, and I thought, I don't know if he's saying it, joking."
Alex Jones, the show's host, interjected: "I remember that clip. That's what people do. That's what psychos do."
Trump made the now-infamous remark while speaking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office last August. During the meeting, Trump noted that Ukraine had not held a presidential election since Russia's invasion in 2022. "So you say, during the war, you can't have elections," Trump said. "So let me just see. Three and a half years from now, so you mean if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections? Oh, that's good."
Iran War and Election Concerns
Since then, Trump has launched a war against Iran, which remains ongoing with no resolution in sight as peace talks stall. Greene told Jones that she believes Trump's behavior reflects someone "planting an idea over and over and over again." She added: "And again, he constantly says it so that he can normalize the idea and test the support and test people's reactions. But saying it over and over and over again normalizes the idea. And I think it's incredibly dangerous, and no one should ever accept it."
Greene emphasized that a third Trump term would be "against the Constitution" and argued that elections should not be cancelled even during wartime.
Trump's Repeated Allusions to a Third Term
Trump has frequently hinted at remaining in office beyond his second term. He has sold "TRUMP 2028" hats and claimed he was "entitled" to a third term, alleging that Democrats "cheated like hell" in the 2020 election. These claims have been widely debunked. The president has also stated that he will only accept the results of the 2026 midterm elections if they are "honest." If not, he told NBC News, "something else has to happen."
Greene, once a staunch supporter, broke with Trump after calling for the release of the Epstein files. Trump subsequently dubbed her "Marjorie 'Traitor' Brown." Amid the fallout, Greene resigned from Congress. Now a fierce critic, she has said that releasing the Epstein files was the "demise" of the Republican party but "worth every single bit."
