Ryanair has issued an update affecting all passengers flying this summer. The low-cost airline reminded travellers that it 'no longer accepts printed boarding passes'. Instead, passengers must check in online and use a digital boarding pass via the Ryanair App.
Ryanair states the move is for 'eliminating paper passes to reduce costs, improve service, streamline rebooking, and save 300 tonnes of paper annually'. The change took effect on November 12, 2025, but the airline continues to issue reminders due to the scale of the switch.
How to get your digital boarding pass
A reminder sent over the weekend said: 'Important update for Ryanair passengers - boarding passes are now fully digital. We no longer accept printed boarding passes. You need the Ryanair App to access your digital boarding pass.'
The airline advises passengers to open or download the Ryanair App, sign in to their myRyanair account, find their booking, check in as normal, and the digital boarding pass will be available in the app. Alternatively, online check-in can be completed on Ryanair.com.
Fees and lost device policy
Ryanair warns that airport check-in will still incur a fee if reminders are ignored. All passengers receive email reminders to check in online 48 and 24 hours before departure. If a passenger loses their digital device before arriving at the airport, the airline says 'you will receive a free of charge boarding pass at the airport'. If the device is lost after security but before boarding, passengers 'will be assisted at the gate' as the airline has their details stored digitally.
