Republican Senator McCormick Criticized for 'Trump Regime' Slip on Fox News
McCormick Slammed for 'Trump Regime' Slip on Fox News

Republican Senator Dave McCormick faced intense criticism after mistakenly referring to "President Trump's regime" during a live appearance on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom on May 26. The slip-up, which he quickly corrected, sparked a wave of mockery on social media, with many accusing the Pennsylvania senator of inadvertently revealing his true thoughts.

Controversial Remark on Iran Conflict

While discussing the ongoing tensions with Iran, McCormick argued that high gas prices were "putting real pressure on working families." He then added, "But the alternative of Iran with a nuclear weapon…they could threaten America or its kids, which was very likely to happen under President Trump’s regime…" Before finishing, he corrected himself, saying, "His administration, if we hadn’t taken action."

Social Media Reaction

The comment did not go unnoticed online. X users quickly pounced, with one writing, "Dave McCormick went on Fox and called it 'Trump’s regime' before catching himself like a kid who just cussed in front of grandma." Another jabbed, "Oops. Dave said the quiet part out loud." Critics argued that the term "regime" is typically reserved for authoritarian governments, making the slip particularly damning for a Republican senator.

McCormick's Defense

Later, McCormick shared a clip of the interview on X, but edited out the controversial moment. He reiterated his stance that Iran "cannot have a nuclear weapon" and that the U.S. must eliminate Iran's ability to "terrorize its neighbor" with ballistic missiles. He also emphasized the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, stating, "Those are the conditions that have to be met for any deal to work." McCormick warned that Iran faces a choice between a "path to prosperity" or facing "additional pressure with military force."

The Independent has reached out to the White House and Senator McCormick’s office for comment but has not yet received a response.
