Man Utd Set to Appoint Michael Carrick as Permanent Manager
Man Utd to Appoint Carrick as Permanent Manager

Michael Carrick is set to be handed the chance to become the permanent manager of Manchester United. The former midfielder will open talks with club executives next week regarding a new and improved deal, replacing Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed in January.

United's co-owners, the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, believe Carrick has demonstrated his worth for the role on a full-time basis. Since taking charge on an interim basis, Carrick has led the team to Champions League qualification, suffering only two defeats in 15 games. Senior figures at Old Trafford reportedly held a conference call before agreeing to Carrick's appointment.

Other candidates were considered, including Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann, and Unai Emery. However, United recognized that attracting any of these managers would be unrealistic for various reasons. Tuchel and Nagelsmann are committed until after the World Cup, Enrique is unwilling to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and Emery prefers to remain at Aston Villa.

Carrick now emerges as the frontrunner to become United's seventh permanent boss since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. Although Ferguson was not consulted during the process, it is understood he approves of Carrick's appointment.

Carrick will seek assurances that the club will pursue its leading transfer targets this summer. He has expressed a strong desire to lead the club back to prominence. United aims to finalize Carrick's position before the end of this month to allow him to plan for next season.

Carrick has proven highly popular within the squad and has been the leading candidate for several weeks. His imminent appointment is expected to encourage captain Bruno Fernandes to commit his long-term future to the club.
