Crystal Palace hopeful Iraola accepts manager role

Crystal Palace are hoping for a positive response from Andoni Iraola as they remain persistent in their pursuit of making him their next manager. The 43-year-old Spaniard has been a target for Palace since they learned that Oliver Glasner would not renew his contract, as reported by Daily Mail Sport at the turn of the year.

Iraola's Future Decision

Bournemouth also attempted to convince Iraola to stay, but he has been seeking a new challenge amid interest from Athletic Bilbao, who have since appointed Edin Terzic, and other top clubs in England and abroad. Palace are prepared to present a project to Iraola that would allow him to strengthen their squad and build on the good work done by Glasner, following their FA Cup and Community Shield victories and their arrival in the Europa Conference League final.

Alternative Options

Palace see Iraola as the perfect fit but have others under consideration should he decline, such as Kieran McKenna and Frank Lampard, while free agents Thomas Frank and Sean Dyche have also been discussed. The club faces the prospect of losing Adam Wharton, but the £60 million plus funds would be channelled back into the team, as well as any generated by Jean-Philippe Mateta's expected departure.

Palace are among the clubs keen on Newcastle United's William Osula and Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney. They also need a new centre-back. Andoni Iraola has long been admired as a potential replacement for Palace boss Oliver Glasner.
