Allsopp Slams Labour Minister in Fiery Post

Kirstie Allsopp has launched a scathing attack on a Treasury minister following a weekend interview. The Location, Location, Location star took to social media to criticise Chief Secretary to the Treasury Emma Reynolds after her appearance on GB News on Sunday (November 1).

During the interview, Reynolds was questioned about people affected by Labour's economic policies. She told the broadcaster: "I don't think employers are working people, they are companies." Later, host Camilla Tominey asked whether, because she employed a cleaner, she was not a working person. Reynolds doubled down, arguing: "No, but you're an employee probably of your company, and I'm saying there is a difference between employers and employees."

Allsopp's Reaction

Shortly after the interview aired, viewers flocked to social media to voice their frustrations, and Allsopp was quick to wade in with her own thoughts. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, she penned: "If you're saying something daft in an interview and you are given an opportunity to correct the impression you may have given, you do it sharpish; you don't just leave it out there."

She added: "Treasury ministers should know how to communicate tax policy; it's their job." The 55-year-old broadcaster followed up with a further post, which read: "Maybe I'm in a bad mood 'cos broken legs take ages to heal, but Emma really is moronic and should be fired."

She continued: "To state that 'employers are not working people, they are companies' shows such a scary lack of understanding of how the world goes around that it boggles the mind."

Public Backlash

Allsopp's followers soon rushed to the comments to echo her sentiment online. One user penned: "I really don't think that Reynolds either understands or cares, to be honest. Just a career politician doing her thing." Another agreed: "No correction is needed. She stated precisely what she believes."

A third chimed in with: "She doesn't think it's daft. See how non-plussed she was by Camilla's reaction. She gave a perfectly standard socialist analysis of class." The politician has yet to make a public response to the backlash from her comment.

Budget Defence

Reynolds was also challenged during the interview over landlords and savers being hit by an extra two percentage points added to income tax on property and savings income. She defended measures announced by Chancellor John Healey on Wednesday (October 28). She said: "We made a very conscious decision in this Budget for the tax increases to be targeted and fair."

She added: "We increased the corporation tax on bankers in order to pay for the breathing space measures for families, particularly the £100 energy support package for families in council tax bands A to D, taking VAT off electricity for a further three months, and also extending the fuel duty cut."
