Tracey Belland, the woman pursuing legal action against Renée Zellweger and her partner Ant Anstead, is seeking more than $10 million in damages. The claim stems from an alleged injury sustained on the patio of their rented property in Laguna Beach, California, on August 14, 2024.
Details of the Lawsuit
Belland initially filed a lawsuit in February against the 57-year-old Oscar-winning actress, the 47-year-old television host, and the property owner, Glenn Wilson. The complaint cited pain, suffering, emotional distress, and medical expenses. However, the specific monetary demand was only disclosed by TMZ on Thursday.
According to court documents, Belland claimed that a thin rug had been placed over a hole in the patio, causing her to trip on the uneven surface. This fall resulted in an injury to her right knee.
Cross-Complaint Filed by Homeowner
Glenn Wilson has since filed a cross-complaint, arguing that Zellweger and Anstead should bear financial responsibility for the incident. He also contends that Belland should be barred from suing because she has previously filed for bankruptcy.
A source close to Zellweger told the outlet that the actress resided at a nearby property, and it was Anstead who was renting the home in question.
Anstead and Zellweger’s Relationship
On April 23, Anstead celebrated the fifth anniversary of his relationship with Zellweger. He shared a photograph on Instagram from their first meeting on the set of his HGTV/Discovery+ series Celebrity IOU: Joyride in 2021. The caption read: “How it started. Happy five-year anniversary my beautiful lady! Hands down the best human I know! Luckiest boy! I love you my Ren.”
Anstead, who stands six feet two inches tall and has 467,000 Instagram followers, has a six-year-old son, Hudson London Anstead, from his 21-month marriage to Christina Haack, which ended in 2021. He is also father to daughter Amelie, 22, and son Archie, 19, from his 12-year marriage to Louise Anstead, which concluded in 2017.
Zellweger, a Texas native, has previously been linked to artists such as Doyle Bramhall II, Bradley Cooper, Kenny Chesney, Jack White, Matthew Perry, and Jim Carrey. She recently wrote and directed an animated short titled They last year.
Career Updates
The Only Murders in the Building actress was previously attached to produce and star in Peacock’s World War II Air Force series Avenger Field and to appear in Michael Patrick King’s revenge film The Back Nine, but both projects appear to have stalled.
Anstead is currently hosting the 18-episode third season of Born Mechanic, which premieres this summer on Quest, Hulu, and HBO Max. The former police constable also maintains a strong influencer presence, with paid partnerships for brands such as Frenchic Paint and Med Lounge.
