Senator Elizabeth Warren has claimed that her Republican colleagues in the Senate are avoiding eye contact with her because they are embarrassed by the president's handling of the conflict with Iran. Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Massachusetts Democrat criticised the lack of a clear strategy, justification, or exit plan for the military engagement.
Warren's Criticism of the Iran Conflict
Warren questioned how the conflict benefits any American, asserting that it is unconstitutional. She pointed out that only Congress holds the power to declare war, and noted that her letter to the Defense Secretary regarding the matter has gone unanswered. She warned that the ultimate cost will include human lives, financial expense, and damage to the United States' global standing.
Concerns Over Fed Nominee
Warren also expressed concern about the president's nominee for the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, suggesting he is a 'sock puppet' intended to manipulate interest rates for political gain. She argued that Warsh's appointment would undermine the independence of the central bank.
The senator's comments come amid ongoing tensions between the White House and Capitol Hill over the scope of executive authority in military matters. Warren's remarks highlight the deepening partisan divide over foreign policy and economic governance.
