Donald Trump left King Charles and Queen Camilla giggling after asking a question during their meeting at the White House, according to a lip reader. The monarch and his wife arrived in Washington DC for a historic state visit and were greeted by the President and First Lady at the South Portico.
White House Arrival
After touching down last night, Charles and Camilla posed for photographers for nearly a minute as Trump made small talk. Lip reader Jeremy Freeman claims the King said, 'Hello, very good to be here,' and the First Lady responded, 'So pleased to see you. I'm really delighted.'
The Giggling Moment
As they prepared for a photo, the group looked at stickers on the ground marking their positions. Trump motioned Charles into his spot after Camilla accidentally stood there. According to Freeman, Trump then asked, 'What's going on here?' prompting laughter. He added of the band playing, 'Enjoy, they're good guys.' The couples later enjoyed tea and toured the White House beehives.
Second Day Events
On the second day, the King and Queen will receive a full ceremonial welcome before Charles addresses Congress. He will describe the UK-US alliance as 'one of the greatest in human history' and acknowledge tensions between Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer over Iran. Charles will also reference a recent gun attack in Washington DC and offer solidarity on the 250th anniversary of American independence.
This marks only the second time a British monarch has addressed a joint meeting of Congress, following Queen Elizabeth II in 1991. Charles will stress that despite disagreements, the two nations have always found ways to come together, highlighting their shared democratic traditions and security ties.
