Nicola Sturgeon, the former First Minister of Scotland, has signed with a London-based talent agency that represents Hollywood A-listers such as Keira Knightley and Kate Winslet. However, the agency's social media post promoting her appearance on ITV's The Assembly misspelled her name as 'Nichola Sturgeon', despite including her correct Instagram handle.
New Career Move
Ms Sturgeon, 55, stepped down as an MSP in May and did not seek re-election at the Holyrood elections. She has since been promoting her memoir, Frankly, and is now represented by United Agents, a leading literary and talent agency. The agency's roster includes award-winning actors, comedians, presenters, and authors, such as Olivia Colman, Eddie Redmayne, and James Corden.
Criticism Over Media Appearances
Ms Sturgeon has faced criticism from political opponents for her media engagements while still drawing an MSP salary. Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie remarked that Ms Sturgeon had 'barely contributed' to Holyrood in recent years, instead touring book festivals and TV studios, including a paid £25,000 pundit role on ITV's 2024 General Election coverage. Scottish Conservative MSP Annie Wells accused her of 'feathering her nest' for a lucrative TV career.
In her final parliamentary register of interests, Ms Sturgeon disclosed a £75,000 advance from publisher Pan Macmillan for her book. Her private company, Nicola Sturgeon Ltd, paid £6,213 for clothing and styling for promotional work, and she received £30,000 in dividends.
