Stand Up To Racism has condemned far-right figures for exploiting the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in Southampton. The organisation expressed condolences to his family while criticising the police failures that led to his death. Vickrum Digwa, 23, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 21 years for fatally stabbing Nowak on December 3, 2025.
In a statement on Instagram, Stand Up To Racism said: 'We send our deepest condolences to the family of Henry Nowak. No family should have to experience the loss of a son. The bodycam footage and the failures of the police are shocking and tragic.' The group warned that 'known fascists and far-right activists' were trying to weaponise the killing, citing a protest called by neo-Nazi group White Vanguard and plans by Tommy Robinson to attend future demonstrations.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage also faced criticism for calling for 'pure cold rage' in response to the murder. Stand Up To Racism accused him of cynically using the tragedy to fuel his divisive agenda and win votes. The group urged communities not to let the far right divide them.
Violence erupted during a protest near the site of the killing on Tuesday night. More than 1,000 demonstrators gathered at Southampton Central Police Station, initially peaceful, but later some threw chairs, cans and flares at police. Officers in riot gear were forced to retreat, and a police helicopter was deployed as stones were thrown in the St Denys area.
Rone Christian, a father who attended the protest, said: 'The only thing they care about is themselves. Nothing changes. I stand with Henry's family. I just can't imagine if something like that happened to my son.'
