The King and other members of the Royal Family were present at the arena when the incident took place but were not made aware of its severity until later. "The thoughts and most heartfelt sympathies of the whole Royal Family are with the victim's loved ones and military colleagues at this time of grief," the statement read.
Tributes from Family and Friends
Ciara's father, Pat Sullivan, shared a photo of his daughter on social media with a message that read: "The honour. The service. They will never be forgotten." Tributes have poured in from those who knew her. Friend Eleanor Lucas Bell described her as possessing "incredible talent, horsemanship and dedication." In a Facebook post, Bell wrote: "Today our sport lost one of its very best. She was the very pinnacle of equestrianism — someone I looked up to enormously as both a rider and a role model." Bell also highlighted the dangers of equestrian sport, noting that "moments like this bring it into painfully sharp focus." She concluded: "Stand down Gunner."
The incident has sent shockwaves through the equestrian community, with many remembering Sullivan for her skill and professionalism. The Royal Windsor Horse Show is an annual event that attracts top riders and members of the Royal Family.
