After weeks of speculation, Sam Pang has officially confirmed he will step down as host of the Logies. The 52-year-old presenter told The Age on Monday that his three-year tenure as the face of Australia's night of nights has ended.
Pang's Decision
"I've had three great years, and it was wonderful, but I'm just not going to do it this year," Pang said. He revealed that he was approached to host the awards on August 16 but "politely declined."
"It was very amicable," he added. "I'm well aware I may never do it again, and whoever does it I'm sure will do a great job, but I just thought three was a nice number."
Ratings Success
Pang's cheeky and irreverent comedy proved a hit with audiences and A-list celebrities, driving major ratings for the Seven Network. The 2025 broadcast averaged 1.43 million viewers, the highest since 2012. His debut in 2023 also drew 877,000 viewers, with many tuning in specifically for him.
Potential Replacements
Seven has not announced a successor, but insiders report a divide among executives. Some want an edgy, unpredictable host like comedians Aaron Chen, Jim Jefferies, or Kitty Flanagan. Others prefer a universally loved, family-friendly face, with wildlife warrior Robert Irwin generating significant buzz.
"Robert appeals to everybody," a source said. "Families love him, advertisers love him, and he already feels bigger than just one network." Irwin, a US Dancing With the Stars champion, is seen as one of the safest and most commercially valuable young stars in Australian television.
Future of the Logies
Seven executives are aware that the next host will shape the awards show's identity for years. "This isn't just about replacing Sam Pang," the insider said. "It's about deciding what the next era of the Logies actually looks like."
Pang all but confirmed his departure on last week's Front Bar. Co-hosts Mick Molloy and Andy Maher pressed him on his reduced AFL commentary appearances. "Some of us are busy," Pang joked. "Not hosting the Logies," Molloy replied. "It's not looking good," Pang admitted.
